The Minnesota Historical Society and Minnesota Planning's Land Management Information Center have recently completed the conversion of nearly 2,500 historical timber survey maps dating from the late 1800's to a set of standardized GIS products. The resulting products can now be integrated with other data sets to compare and contrast the development of critical lands over time; to plan for the most effective replanting of native species of timber; and to assess the human impact on the environment. This presentation will briefly discuss the procedures used to convert the historical maps to usable GIS products. Free CDs of the data will be handed out at the end of the presentation.
