Annual Conference & Workshops
The Minnesota GIS/LIS Consortium will hold its 14th Annual Conference and Workshops on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Land Information Systems (LIS) on October 4-6, 2004 at the Saint Cloud Civic Center in Saint Cloud, Minnesota. Conference and Workshop materials will be available at the Civic Center beginning Monday morning.
The workshops will be held on Monday, October 4. This year, the conference committee surveyed our members to develop a selection of workshop topics. The workshops provide a mix of hands-on learning and lecture topics, and include several workshops not previously offered. Workshops will be held either at the Saint Cloud Civic Center, or at the Spatial Analysis and Research Center (SARC) at Saint Cloud State University. On Monday night, join us at the Red Carpet, a bar conveniently located near the Civic Center, where we will have a section reserved for our use. There you can catch up with colleagues you havent seen for a while, network with new acquaintances, play a game of darts or pool, and play a special bingo game for fun and prizes.
We are very fortunate this year to have a nationally known keynote speaker to begin the conference on Tuesday morning. Former Governor Jim Geringer, the governor of Wyoming from 1995-2003, is an outspoken advocate of technology enhancing services, emphasizing the benefits of integrated service delivery and enterprise-wide solutions. Recently, he was named the 2004 National Technology Champion Award recipient from the National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO). Following his talk, the concurrent sessions will cover a variety of GIS/LIS related topics. Tuesday lunch is the time we highlight individuals among us who deserve recognition. We will recognize the 2004 GIS/LIS Lifetime Achievement Award winners, the Polaris Award winners, and the winners of the various scholarships awarded through the GIS/LIS Consortium.
The Exhibit Hall will be in the spacious Terry Haws Center in the Saint Cloud Civic Center and will feature numerous vendors interested in sharing with you the latest hardware, software, products, and services. The Exhibit Hall will open Tuesday afternoon and remain open until the end of the conference. Following the conference events on Tuesday, be sure to attend the Vendor Reception and Poster Session. The Vendor Reception will have complimentary hors doeuvres and a cash bar. Door prizes will be given away at both 5:30 and 6:30.
Following the Vendor Reception, join us for the annual beer tasting, sponsored by the Boreal Brewers Club of Bemidji. This event will be hosted conveniently within the Saint Cloud Civic Center, but tickets will be required. Any proceeds over the cost of this event go directly to the GIS/LIS Consortium.
We end the conference on Wednesday this year, with a morning of concurrent sessions followed by the closing luncheon. This year the closing lunch will feature a presentation by Paul Morin of the University of Minnesota and the GeoWall Consortium. GeoWall is a new visualization technology and it promises to be a presentation you wont soon forget. Finally, we wrap up with the annual short business meeting, followed by door prize awards.
The MN GIS/LIS Consortium would like to recognize our sponsors of this year's conference.
