The Preliminary Program for the October Mn GIS/LIS Conference has been mailed. If you did not receive a copy, we do not have your current mailing address. If you wish to receive mailings from the Consortium, please add or update your mailing address at: http://www.mngislis.org/mailinglist.htm. An updated PDF version of the preliminary brochure is also available online here.
Please help spread the word about the conference. Often there are individuals in an organization who utilize GIS technology, perhaps on a casual or part-time basis, but may not be plugged into the Consortium's activities. This year we are extending a special invitation to those casual or part-time users, through our newcomer rate - a one time discount. Please help us reach those people be sending out a link to the conference website http://www.mngislis.org/conf2005/conf2005.htm and/or the preliminary program (referenced above), to those you know of that may be interested but may not receive our mailings.
Thank you for your continued interest in the Mn GIS/LIS Consortium and hope to see you at the conference!
Workshops: Workshops will be held on Monday, October 3rd and a committee is already working on developing a palette of stimulating and educational workshops. Similar to last year, a list of potential hands-on and lecture style workshop topics has been developed. Members will be given the opportunity to vote online for the workshops they are most interested in or provide ideas for additional subjects not on the list. The goal is to develop a workshop selection that is of the greatest benefit to members. Please watch your email for instructions on ranking workshops and help the planning committee develop a strong slate of workshop topics.
Main Conference: The conference kicks off on Tuesday, October 4th with a plenary speaker followed by multiple tracks of morning and afternoon concurrent sessions and noontime luncheon. A committee to develop the sessions portion of the conference is being formed and will be sending out a Call for Presentations in the next few weeks. Remember, this is a member driven conference - please consider presenting GIS/LIS related activities that YOU have been involved in over the past year.
Following Tuesdays sessions will the annual poster session and vendors reception. Free hot hors d'oeuvres and beverages are served and a cash bar will be available. This event provides an excellent time to visit with vendors, learn about poster displays, network with colleagues and win door prizes!
Wednesday brings more concurrent sessions with a luncheon awards banquet, closing speaker, (brief) annual meeting and more prizes! Additionally, there will be a Product Demonstration Track running throughout out the conference to showcase the latest in GIS technology. Watch for more conference details in the summer newsletter.
Volunteers: Much of the conference is run solely on volunteer effort. There are a number of ways to contribute to a successful and fun event. Committees are formed around the following topics - workshops, sessions, facilities, entertainment, and communications. The planning committee would be grateful for any and all volunteers. Contributing as an instructor, presenter, speaker, etc is also very helpful. Think now about what you can bring to the conference to make it a richer experience for all!
Please feel free to contact me at email@example.com with any ideas, questions, suggestions or other conference related items. I look forward to seeing you all in October!
