AM Workshops

  • AM01 (Hands-On) – Practical Uses of Python Scripting

  • AM02 (Hands-On) – Remote Sensing with ArcGIS

AM01 Half Day (Hands-On) – Practical Uses of Python Scripting

  • Time: 9:00am – 12:00pm
  • Audience Level: Intermediate
  • Instructor: Sean O'Brien, Houston Engineering, Inc.

This session will look at scripts we have developed using python as opposed to learning the basics of Python programming. We take lots of stock model builder tools, break them down and rebuild in python for automation of multiple model runs. A flood inundation model is a great example of that. Participants will have a chance to work with 2-3 scripts during the workshop.

AM02 Half Day (Hands-On) – Remote Sensing with ArcGIS

  • Time: 9:00am – 12:00pm
  • Audience Level: Intermediate
  • Instructor: Valquiria Quirino, Minnesota State University – Moorhead

This workshop is intended to introduce many of the remote sensing techniques available in ArcGIS. We will look at image classification, reflectance, contrast stretching, creating composites, and other remote sensing techniques.

PM Workshops

  • PM01 (Hands-On) – Getting Started with ArcGIS Pro

  • PM02 Half Day (Bring Your Own Laptop) – Introduction to Building Web Applications with JavaScript

PM01 Half Day (Hands-On) – Getting Started with ArcGIS Pro

  • Time: 1:00pm – 4:00pm
  • Audience Level: Beginner
  • Instructor: Micaella Penning, University of Minnesota Duluth

This hands-on workshop will introduce Esri's newest Desktop application, ArcGIS Pro. Participants will learn about the various changes from ArcMap and gain experience with the new interface through multiple exercises.

PM02 Half Day (Bring Your Own Laptop) – Introduction to Building Web Applications with JavaScript

  • Time: 1:00pm – 4:00pm
  • Audience Level: Intermediate
  • Instructor: Caleb Mackey, Bolton & Menk, Inc.
  • Note - Requirements: A text editor (Atom IDE, Notepad ++, etc.) Web Server for Chrome (simple free add-on to Google Chrome, can be installed in < 2 minutes)

This workshop will demonstrate how to build simple web applications using JavaScript. This will cover some introductory JavaScript concepts and will show examples of how to use Esri’s JavaScript API 3.x for 2D maps and version 4.x for 3D maps. Examples using some open source libraries such as MapBox/Leaflet will also be covered briefly. This course is designed to be an introductory class with no prior programming experience required, although it would be beneficial to be familiar with HTML5, JavaScript, and CSS.
