Silent Auction at Fall Conference

By Jane Mueller, Professional Development Committee Chair

It’s never too early to start thinking about the fall conference. One new event last year was a silent auction of items donated by businesses and individuals. Items were displayed during the beer tasting event and each had its own bid sheet. Individuals interested in bidding on an item could sign their name and enter their bid on the sheet. At the end of the event, the highest bidder was awarded the item. A live auction was also held on several of the most valuable items. A total of $1721 was raised from these events and all proceeds went towards the scholarship fund.

This year we are hoping for another successful event that raises even more money for this worthy cause. Although the exact details of the event (time, location at the conference, etc.) are still being worked on, it is never too early to start thinking about donations. Anyone can donate items and, because the Consortium is a non-profit organization with 501(c)3 status, your donation is tax deductible.

Some of the items donated last year included: child’s map quilt, coloring book and colors; 6-packs of homebrew, Braemar Golf Course basket, laptop computers, homemade wine, handmade duck decoys, golfing package, homemade syrup, IPOD and tunes, Minnesota Wild tickets, Red Wing basket, northern Minnesota goodies, gourmet coffee, handcrafted white-tailed deer antler lamp, decorated grapevine wreaths, vacation packages and many more.

Use your imagination and let’s have a great event!
