GITA Minnesota Chapter’s 2008 Conference
By Alan Laumeyer, GITA Minnesota Chapter President

On February 7, 2008, GITA’s Minnesota Chapter sponsored a conference entitled "Utilizing GeoSpatial Technologies to Improve Asset Management and Reliability". The keynote speaker was Dr. Jayant Sharma, Technical Director, Spatial Oracle USA Inc. The conference helped people learn how GIS will better administer and track location-based facilities and assets. The day-long conference was held at the Eden Prairie Training Center.

Conference topics with panel discussion included: GeoSpatial Database Options, Field Data Collection, Mobility and Staking, Scheduling/Asset Management, Outage Management, and Aerial Photography.

Over one hundred twenty experienced GIS people who wished to advance the use of GIS technologies attended.

Conference exhibitors were Oracle, Wright-Hennepin Electric, Pro-West & Associates, Inc., Powel, Inc., Compass Tools, Utility Integration Solutions, Inc., Gopher State One Call, Intergraph, and the Minnesota Department of Administration - Land Management Information Center.

This conference helped achieve the mission of the Minnesota Chapter of Geospatial Information & Technology Association, which is to provide excellence in education and information exchange on geospatial information and technology in telecommunications, infrastructure and utility applications.
