|New Scholarship Committee Chair
By Rebecca Foster, Board Chair-Elect
The Consortium’s Scholarship Committee has two main purposes: To encourage GIS education programs in Minnesota’s colleges and universities and to recognize and support outstanding students in those programs.
This scholarship program began in 2000, and Banette Kritzky, from the USDA’s Natural Resource Conservation Service, has been the committee chair since 2003. Highlights of her service as Chair were implementing a new student scholarship award winners' competition in 2005 and developing a growing endowment fund.
Banette also received the Polaris Leadership Award for her contributions toward the betterment of the GIS community through service, coordination and education at the Consortium’s fall conference this year.
Unfortunately, due to illness, Banette had to resign from all of her Consortium duties a few weeks after the conference. I would like to thank Banette for her involvement over the past several years and wish her the best as she deals with her health situation.
I'm pleased to announce that Chad Martini will be the new Scholarship Chair. He has been a member of the committee for several years and is very familiar with the procedure, so there should be a seamless transition. At the moment, he is doing post-conference follow up with the current committee members and judges from the competition.
