New Chief Geographic Information Officer for Minnesota
Dan Ross is the State’s new Chief Geospatial Information Officer and Director of the Minnesota Geospatial Information Office (MnGeo). He replaces Dr. David Arbeit, who retired from MnGeo on April 10.
Dan has been with the State for 18 years. His most recent role was Business Solutions Manager with the Department of Transportation. Dan has also served as the Northwest Region GIS Coordinator for the Department of Natural Resources and as the System Administrator for the College of Social Sciences and GIS Adjunct Professor at St. Cloud State University. Prior to his State service, Dan was a GIS Technician working on parcel data for Stearns County.
His extensive GIS experience and strong managerial skills will help take MnGeo to the next level as it becomes integrated into MN.IT Services – the new name for the consolidated Office of Enterprise Technology. Dan feels strongly that continuing to build partnerships within Minnesota’s geospatial community is critical. “I believe the power is in the community. What we accomplish, we can accomplish better together. We are all part of the solution."
