From the Chair

By Annette Theroux, 2006 GIS/LIS Consortium Board Chair

Although summer is winding down, we are in the process of ramping up for the 16th Annual Minnesota GIS/LIS Conference and Workshops to be held in St. Cloud October 4-6. A lot of planning and perspiration has gone into the work and we are very proud of the Conference Committee and subcommittees.

The conference again has workshops and presentations that cover cutting-edge GIS technology. In addition to the technical aspect of the conference, there will be many opportunities for networking and socializing with GIS colleagues. If you haven’t already registered, you still have time.

Some of you may have noticed a new look to the Minnesota GIS/LIS Consortium’s website at www.mngislis.org. We had an opportunity this summer to update our website and streamline conference/workshop registration and maintenance. The interface and functionality of the website will be easier to use and give the Consortium more options for expansion in the future.

One item that we will be announcing in the near future is the availability of space on the Consortium’s homepage for advertising by organizations. A rotating banner space will be available to place your company or organization’s logo or photo. More information will be available following the conference.

We want to thank all of you who attended the spring workshops and forum. The Due North and Due South workshops were great successes. We hope you had the opportunity to attend, and if not, we are planning similar events for next year. Feel free to email me with suggestions or comments. The “Imagining Possibilities in GIS” forum was also a success. The Consortium was honored to be able to sponsor an event that showcased nationally and internationally known speakers.

Thanks for your continued support of Consortium activities and the annual conference. We look forward to seeing you at the conference in October!
