|MN GIS/LIS Polaris Leadership Award Winner - Marty Mitchell|
MN GIS/LIS Polaris Leadership Award Winner
Geography Department Minnesota State University, Mankato (2016)
As a professor and advisor in Geography for over 20 years at Minnesota State University, Mankato, Marty has also been a leader of student participation in the GIS/LIS Consortium and Annual conference since the 1990s. He was the face of the Consortium to students then, and continues to be a leader for students entering the field today.
Marty brings a passion for student development to Minnesota’s GIS community. His impact is felt far beyond Mankato as he has championed student involvement at the annual GIS/LIS Conference through the scholarship competition, advocated for creating more opportunities for students to attend the conference, and most importantly, he has kept student development on the minds of everyone involved with GIS/LIS.
He has positively influenced the lives of hundreds of geographers and GIS specialists across the state of Minnesota. The warm reception he receives from these alumni reminds us of this every year.
