Submit a Presentation Proposal

The Sessions Committee invites the submission of abstracts to be considered as part of the 24th Annual Conference of the Minnesota GIS/LIS Consortium, October 1-3, 2014 at the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester, Minnesota. Abstract submissions can be submitted as:

  • presentations,
  • panel discussions,
  • posters,
  • web maps and /or
  • product demonstrations

Session Presentations

The Sessions Committee will select presentations to represent levels of expertise and a broad topic base. Selection will be based on the value of the proposed topic to the audience and the quality and clarity of the abstract.

Are you new to speaking, or have an interesting short topic? Try the Lightning round – a quick, 12-minute presentation! The perfect intro to conference speaking, present work in progress, or give a brief overview, leaving the audience with a key point to remember.

Presentation Types:

  • Lightning Round (12 minutes),
  • Individual Presentation (25 minutes);
    • General Topic Presentation
    • Technical Presentation
  • Panel Discussion ( 60-90 minutes),
  • Product Demonstrations* (25 minutes), and
  • Poster Display
    • Display area: 4 ft (height) x 8 ft (width)
    • Project-specific and cartographic exhibits welcome
  • NEW! Web Map Display
    • Video submission format (.wmv), once an abstract has been accepted

Abstract Submission:

  • Abstracts cannot exceed 300 words
  • Incomplete abstracts will not be accepted
  • Abstract submission is online only

Product Demonstrations

Presentations by conference exhibitors that market specific products or services may be accepted as product demonstrations. Information regarding exhibit hall space will be sent to prospective vendors in early May.

The submission deadline for all presentation types is May 12, 2014. Abstract submissions are the foundation of the conference and early submission is appreciated.

Note: Only for Panel Discussions. Please include the same information asked for the first and second authors.
Presenter bios must be limited to 50 words for each presenter. A bio is simply stating your name and other introductory information. A moderator will use this to introduce you prior to your presentation, giving the audience a little background information on why you are presenting the topic.

Abstracts must be limited to 300 words. Remember, a clear concise abstract is your best ticket to a logical track placement and a well-attended session. To control word count and spelling errors it is recommended that you cut and paste from a Word document or attach your abstract in .doc format. In order to aid us in tracking these documents. Please add your last name into the name of your file.
