Wednesday Evening Welcome Reception/Social Hour

Join fellow conference-goers on Wednesday evening at the Red Carpet Bar and Restaurant for complimentary appetizers and a night of comedy. The Red Carpet is within walking distance of the St. Cloud Civic Center, and beginning at 5:30 p.m. the Mn GIS/LIS Consortium will have space designated for conference attendees. Come and enjoy our social hour where complimentary appetizers will be served. The Red Carpet also features a full selection of beer and wine in addition to specialty drinks, coffee and soda. Following the social hour, Comedy Sportz, a fun and interactive improvisational comedy troupe, will perform a custom show for the GIS/LIS audience. All participants are welcome! So, whether you’re just pulling into town, or finishing up a day of workshops, come by and see old friends, meet some new ones and enjoy an evening of laughs and socializing.

MN 3B Night (Bids, Beer and Bluegrass)

This year we are expanding what has become a tradition at the conference, the GIS/LIS beer-tasting event. In addition to the beer tasting, a silent and live auction and a bluegrass band will be on hand to provide a variety of fun for conference attendees at the Civic Center on Thursday night. Tickets are priced at $20 and will be sold at the door. All proceeds from this event will benefit the Mn GIS/LIS Scholarship Fund.

Brewers sponsoring this year's tasting includes The Town Hall Brewery of Minneapolis, Summitt, Gluek, and Schells. Brewers will be donating a variety of beer covering the range of the high quality beer styles they produce. Styles will likely include Pilsener, Golden Ale, Pale Ale, India Pale Ale, Scotch Ale, Honey Ale, Oktoberfest, Bock, Stout, Red Lager, Black & Tan, Smoked Porter, Porter, and others.

Please join us for what has become a tradition at the conference, the GIS/LIS beer-tasting event. As always, the Boreal Brewers Club of Bemidji is kind enough to provide the fruit of their labors to be sampled by those present. In addition, samples from commercial breweries will be provided, as available. Home brewers are strongly encouraged to bring their own fermented beverages to share with others, but plan on enough of each beer for 150 people, or about a case for each sample.  A designated GIS/LIS host will do all pouring. Along with many delicious brews of beer, snacks will be provided as well as some fun prizes.  You must be at least 21 years of age to attend this event and identification will be checked at the door.

Attendees are welcome and encouraged to contribute to the silent/live auction and pick up some great items at discount prices. The best items will be saved to be auctioned off by a live auctioneer after the silent portion closes. The auction is expressly dedicated to raising money for the GIS/LIS Scholarship fund and we hope it will be successful and become a continuing portion of our annual event. Information and pledge ideas can be found on the Consortium Web site at

All of this action will be accompanied by some great music. Hanz Blix and the Weapons Inspectors, a bluegrass band out of Brainerd will provide some lively toe-tapping dancing music during and after the tasting. They perform regularly and enjoy entertaining conference goers with a polished performance featuring a fiddle section sure to delight the music lover in you.

Please plan on attending our entertainment events and enjoy some fun and interaction (and maybe a bidding war or two) with friends and fellow conference goers.
