Kari Geurts
(2017)

For over 15 years, Kari Geurts has pursued leadership and collaboration efforts to advance GIS in Minnesota.  Examples:
  •  While pursuing her MGIS degree at the UofM, Kari took a leadership role to organize and implement the GISSO and Career Fair.
  •  She was instrumental in the success of the MapServer User Conference, 2003, and in building the international MapServer community. She also worked to bring the FOSS4G NA conference to Minneapolis.
  • She served on the Consortium Board from 2007-2012, as Conference Chair and Treasurer.
  • She is an active member of the MN Geospatial Advisory Council and co-chair of the Outreach Committee.  She has improved GAC communication efforts by co-creating the GAC Yak, a newsletter connecting state agency staff to the council. Other GAC members now use it to communicate to their sectors.
Kari is a positive and energetic force for good, and inspires others to make a difference.
